Purpose of the Course
This Unit Standard will be useful for employees to enable them to provide primary emergency care (First Aid) in response to an occupational risk induced or any health emergency in their specific workplaces.
Who should attend?
Any person who will be rendering First Aid to fellow employees and have already completed basic First Aid.

Course Outline
Conduct incident scene safety and patient assessment and management within scope.
- Provide intermediate life support (CPR and AED use) and
secondary assessments of the affected persons for life threatening conditions. - Apply wound care within scope.
- Execute intermediate emergency first aid care for a variety of medical emergencies.
- Manage typical environmental emergencies such as hypothermia and hyperthermia.
- Hand the treated person over to the next level of medical care with associated documentation.
- Communicate with affected persons and relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct post-incident clean-up. Intermediate Emergency First Aid Responders are authorised to provide first aid treatment and life support in the event of an emergency at a workplace. They are also responsible for ensuring that the
first aid kit and equipment are well-stocked.
